Landmarc best Jazz release in NL, GMplus nominated in DK for best album!

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

My latest release Landmarc has been named best Jazz Release in the Netherlands, which is very exciting news. This will be followed up by a four page article on my career in the nr.1 Jazz magazine of the Nederlands simply named ‘Jazz’ (published in December). And the best news is that it will be written by a great journalist, Dick Hovenga, whom also is responsible for a great review he wrote earlier for the Dutch music site

But the great news doesn’t stop there. The latest Global Motion release with Nikolaj’s music is nominated in Denmark for best album release of the year, plus there are two recordings that I am on up in the Jazz Charts in the US; the release of Amina Figarova named ‘Sketches’ and Doug Beavers release named ‘Two shades of nude’.

Keep an eye out for the new release of Armen Donelian titled ‘Leapfrog’. The recording went very well, design of cover art is in the making, should be out in the beginning of next year. It includes Dean Johnson, Tyshawn Sorey and Mike Moreno, all first class musicians. Also should be mentioned the recording studio, Firehouse12, a high end recording studio in an amazing building an hour and a half away form NYC. Very comfortable and a great place to do projects, I can highly recommend it.

I have been invited by John Zorn to do a seminar on my music at the Stone. This is a great honor, John Zorn is legendary in NYC for his boundary braking work as an improviser on the Alto Saxophone. I can’t wait, its on December 6th and will include my band Landmarc with Tony Moreno, Nate Radley and Rez Abbasi. Have of the night will be me and Tony getting into rhythm, the other half is one set of music with the band.

And as some of you might now, I am the co-director of New York Jazz Workshop, a project that I started together with Marco Chelo a year and a half ago. Well, its more then a project, we now have five ongoing workshops, a full summer summit program and a private teacher program. It is great to see how this project is evolving into a great institution that is here to stay. We are working very hard at it, we have a great faculty and we can’t wait to get to the next level.

More news is coming: Book, Solo Project and Film Project.
