This release is inspired by Gabriel Fauré, a French composer of the impressionist time period who taught and influenced Sati, Ravel and Boulanger. I was captured by the human nature of his music, warm, gentle and kind. His requiem was criticized as not dramatic enough by the critics in comparison to the requiem of Mozart and his peers. He answered with wisdom, that death is part of life and should be embraced as much as birth. I would have liked to have met him for sure.
This coincided with Covid that threw all the performing artists into a vacuum, a moment of quiet and reflection. It was the perfect time to compose and out came 8 new originals. Recorded by Mike Marciano of systems two this will be our by the end of August. But first a live taste in one of my favorite clubs, Smalls.
Thank you Spike (smalls) for holding the fort with perseverance and dedication, the whole scene is in admiration of how you were able to keep the spirit and dream alive. Art never dies.
Hope to see you there.
